Each year I look forward to the beginning of January. Although that signals the end of the holiday season/the best time of the year, it is a fresh start and a way to pick myself up, set new goals and strive to complete something new. The year 2023 is not only bringing new opportunities but it will also be my last year in my 20’s. I am excited about that milestone and decided to switch up the usual new year’s resolutions list. I will write down 30 things I would like to experience or try out this next year and will do my best to complete as many as possible.
- Complete a 30-day Pilates challenge
- Read two books each month from different genres
- Learn how to bake a delicious chocolate cake
- Buy baking tools
- Travel, again, finally!!!
- Spend a weekend in a state I have not yet been to
- Buy the pair of expensive boots that have been sitting in my cart for 2+ years
- Spend time individually with each of my family and friends
- Hike in a National Park
- Start a new project at work outside of my normal role
- Unplug for an entire day each month – looking forward to this one (it will also help with #2)
- Try a new cuisine – any suggestions?
- Go to a restaurant opening in Boston
- Eat out solo – why does this seem so frightening?
- Take a class to learn a new skill
- Read the newspaper
- Learn how to make a roast chicken
- Start studying Spanish, again
- Host a dinner party
- Invest in a timeless, quality handbag
- Get a massage at a fancy spa in the city
- Try meditation
- Watch a Liverpool FC game at Phoenix Landing
- Volunteer
- Take more pictures when I’m doing fun activities
- Skydiving – I feel this this needs to be on the list, and it doesn’t intimidate me as much as bungee jumping
- Listen to new artists/attend concerts – I love live music!
- Donate my old things – Donating clothes/items I no longer use always feels refreshing
- Conquer a fear
- Enjoy my last year in my 20’s
Great list!
I love food and cooking myself, so I’d love to share my favorite chocolate cake, or best roast chicken method. For interesting restaurants – The Helmand for Afghani, Tawakal Cafe for Somali food, Sol Azteca for Mexican, Ilona for eastern Mediterranean food
But I’m really more a nerdy bookworm than a foodie – I just finished the Rampart Trilogy by M R Carey; and it reminded me of an older book called Engine Summer by John Crowley – so I re-read that too. Genre: post-apocalypse future history
Love the language usage in Rampart; and the re-imagination of technology in both in less technological societies
12. Vejigantes for Puerto Rican food, or KAVA Neo-Taverna for authentic Greek food, both in the South End. La Bodega in Watertown is Uruguayan, really delicious and great cocktails. All 3 are incredible. Also how can we get some Polish food from Agnes’s mom’s kitchen? Bridget I really respect your sense of adventure about cuisines.
17. A lot more difficult than it seems to get it right. Chefs in France have come under harsh scrutiny for centuries trying to perfect this. Bon chance.
29. Run straight at it, look the Devil right in the eye, the Devil usually goes away then.
Hi Bridget – I also enjoy the January timeframe for setting new goals! A couple of years back I decided to get into the practice of creating a vision board with all my goals and placed it somewhere I can look at it each day as a reminder. I really enjoyed reading your list and it reminded me of setting some time to create my vision for the year.
All the best for 2023,
Theresa
